4 Ways to Save on AC
Texans know that AC is non-negotiable for most of the year. Those costs can really skyrocket, especially in the middle of summer. But many people don’t realize that there are simple ways to save on air conditioning.
The experts at AC Genius are here with some tips on cutting those energy costs from using your AC.
1. Change Your Filters
A clogged or dirty filter will restrict airflow and make your system work harder. This drives up your energy costs and wear and tear on your unit.
To combat this, keep a clean filter in your unit. You should aim to change your filter every 30 to 90 days, but this may change depending on your use.
2. Upgrade to a Smart Thermostat
A smart thermostat is a great tool for more precisely managing your home temperature and cutting down on wasted energy. A smart thermostat can automatically adjust the temperature when you leave or when you come home. You can also control the temperature from your phone!
3. Raise the Temperature
One of the easiest ways to save on AC costs is to simply raise the temperature on your thermostat. The recommended temperature for the best efficiency is 78 degrees, but this may differ from your ideal comfort level. Try raising the temperature by 1 degree at a time and see if your home is still comfortable.
You can also use fans to stay comfortable at a higher temperature.
4. Annual Inspections
Getting annual maintenance on your unit is perhaps the best way to run an efficient system and reduce energy costs. Not only will this help reduce energy costs by maximizing your efficiency, but you’ll reduce the chances of a breakdown and prevent costly repairs down the line.
