Message from Brett
Wow, what a great night we had this past Thursday at the Golden Moon Restaurant in Weatherford for our first Client Appreciation Dinner!
Thank you to everyone who came out to spend the evening with us! Thank you, also, to the staff at the Golden Moon for being such great hosts. It was a treat to break bread and fellowship with many of the families that we’ve had the privilege to serve over the last 52 years.
Congratulations, also to Ms. Sturdivant for winning the 32” flat screen TV! Pictures are on our Facebook page.
In case you missed last month’s email newsletter, we’re hosting these dinners all across our North Texas service area throughout the spring and summer. Keep reading to find out where we’ll be this month.
The Penalty of Leadership
Last month, I shared with you one of my favorite videos of John Wayne talking about the traditional American values that have made this country great. This month, I want to share what I believe is one of the greatest essays ever written on excellence. Oddly, it wasn’t a paper written for a college thesis or a speech delivered on some important occasion, but an ad written for Cadillac.
The ad was written in the early 1900’s in response to the criticism Cadillac was taking over the lackluster performance of its V8 engine, and only appeared one time in the Saturday Evening Post in 1915. When I read the ad for the first time a few years ago, I actually picked up the phone and called Cadillac Headquarters in Detroit and asked them how to get a reprint. They sent me a copy that still hangs in my office today.
Apparently, I wasn’t the only one who was moved by this ad, though. In 1967, Cadillac printed the ad on a scroll and mailed it to all its customers. When Elvis Presley received his copy, not only did he frame it and hang it near the desk in his office in Graceland, but he also had a friend do a calligraphy copy that he hung in his bedroom.
To see the ad, click over to our Facebook page, and please leave a comment or share it with others if it resonates with you the same way it did with me.
Until next time, have a great month.
